The cultural initiatives of Biella are filled with appointments, meetings and conferences in order to analyse and thoroughly view matters regarding the reality of the local situation and today's society.
The social reality, politics and local identity, literature, music and theatre are some of the cultural issues which Cittą Studi promotes. Every year a different topic is chosen in order to create a variety of cultural events.
In 2004 "Ethics" was the cultural theme expressing the diversity found in the human race, from an economic and social point of view.
In 2005 "Biella, an open-minded city?" was developed. The cultural initiatives proposed for 2005 were concentrated on issues regarding the "open/closed" mentality of Biella towards the "new" and "different", as well as an evaluation on the local efforts in welcoming "the other" and accepting innovation methods which represent an added value necessary for a social and economic growth and development.
In 2006 the Cultural Commission proposed a theme related to our identity as an individual and/or as a group. Among the many issues concerning this topic, the Biellese cultural identity remains an argument to go into depth, not only because the people of Biella are active in events which involve their territory but also because we believe that the strength of an individual or a group lies within the capability of a social and cultural identification.
